Valley Road Primary School’s Story Tent
Working on this Creative Partnership project with two Year 2 classes from Valley Road Primary School, Sunderland, the aim was to build a temporary outdoor learning space inspired by the natural environment surrounding the school.

The ‘Story tent’ was to be a space to develop and stimulate the imagination.
Over six weeks we explored the outdoors – drawing on colours, textures and the natural environment to create an atmosphere that helped pupils to use their minds to visit another environment. Sessions included sensory exploration, den building, material collecting, sensory collages, sun hives and building mini and large structures. The sessions incorporated key curriculum subjects including english, science, maths, art and design technology, with discussion, imagination, perception and literacy development being integral to our collaborative working.
